Latest figures released by the World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday showed that the new A/H1N1 virus has infected some 177,457 individuals and claimed the lives of some 1,462 others worldwide.
The report stated a decline in the number of infected cases in countries such as Argentina, Chile, Australia and New Zealand as winter near sits end in the Southern Hemisphere’s, adding that this was a start for the second wave of the virus in northern countries.
According to the report Thailand, India and Vietnam are among the countries which have been strongly hit by the disease in the past days.
In India, officials have reported a total of 959 cases of swine flu and eight deaths since May 15, when the first case was identified in the extremely populated country.
